"Set Point" Points Explained

"Set-Point" Points Explained
As we said last week, our goal is to get at least 90 points every day out of the 100 points that are possible. We're going to give you a break down of that so you'll know what we are reporting each week.

Half of all the daily points possible are for exercise, so you get a feeling for how important that is. There's half a point for every minute up to 30 minutes of exercise. Then after thirty minutes, it's a whole point for each minute, up to one hour. There's five points possible if all that exercise is done at the correct heart rate. And that all adds up to 50 points.

There's 5 points possible for drinking at least 6 glasses of water each day.

5 more points for drinking either water or skim milk. Points are not awarded for drinking anything else, like soda pop (even diet pop!) and fruit juice. (Those dreaded refined carbohydrates!)

5 more points for eating 3 meals a day.

10 points if at least one of those meals the person was completely satisfied.

5 points withheld if the person was snacking without hunger. (The other night, Bill was snaking on two, thick, but plain slices of Rhonda's whole wheat bread. That was certainly admirable, but because he wasn't hungry at the time, he was docked points for “no hunger snacking.”)

Next is ten points possible for eating complex carbohydrates. Food items such as whole wheat bread, fruits and vegetables. Unfortunately, we like to process those things and mix them with sugar which is also a refined carbohydrate and that turns those nice things into refined carbohydrates themselves, which are very bad. If a person eats those things, they are docked points here. For example, one slice of white bread is a refined carbohydrate unit or RCU. One flour tortilla is 3!

And lastly, there are ten points possible for avoiding fats. These are measured in fat units. 1 tablespoon of Miracle Whip is 1 fat unit. So a person is also docked points for consuming fat units.

And that brings us up to 100 points. The thing is, we don't give up anything with this program. The other day we went to the gym for an hour. Our meals were sensible and for our main meal, we had sweet 'n sour chicken. Everything was home made, so we were able to control what went into it. We used boneless skinless chicken and served it over brown rice. We were quite full when done eating. It was no RCUs and no fat units! And for that day we each got 100 points.
So how did we do this week? Here are our points:

Rhonda: (S) 100 (M) 100 (T) 98 (W) 100 (T) 94 (F) 46

Bill: (S) 100 (M) 100 (T) 100 (W) 100 (T) 95 (F) 66

And the final result? At the gym this morning, Bill weighed-in at 273 pounds, 2 more pounds lighter than last week. Rhonda actually gained one pound from last week, but we figure that was muscle gain from when she was sick and didn't exercise regularly a few weeks ago.
