We are practicing what is known as "Set Point" weight loss. This was developed about 30 years ago by Doctors Garth Fisher and Dennis Remington. It is built upon the principle that your body has a "Set Point" or "Fat Thermostat" and your body will do what ever it takes to keep itself regulated to a set weight. There are ways to lower one’s fat thermostat and these center around exercise and eating healthy. And also drinking plenty of water. Nothing new there. Right? As far as the exercise part, we go to Gold’s Gym usually 5 times a week for an hour. We’ve been doing this for a year now. We sometimes fall down in the eating healthy aspect of things. And that’s why we started this blog. We need to be very careful about the number of items we eat which have a lot of fat. These are rated in "Fat Units." For example a table spoon of Miracle Whip is one fat unit. There’s another bad thing and that is refined carbohydrates. Any kind of sugar, even NutraSweet, any thing made with white flour – that’s a refined carbohydrate. We try to avoid those things. What can we eat? Well, pretty much everything else! Fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Any of these things in abundance . These are called complex carbohydrates. What we want are items like whole wheat bread, raw fruit, potatoes and other vegetables. The list is endless!
We never have called this a diet. The word diet conjures up lots of scary things, like starvation, hunger, willpower, and counting calories. We only count up how many fat units we consume and how many refined carbohydrates we eat. Here is the chart we use to keep track of it all:

Notice that the chart even make sure we were NOT hungry after our main meal and if we had three meals a day. It even wants to know if we snacked without hunger.
We will keep you posted from week to week as to how things are going. And if you have any questions or comments, please send them. What we need mostly is your encouragement, so please send that, too. And for us, knowing that we will need to be accountable to everyone who reads this blog, will help us as well. In fact, it will help tremendously.
Keep up the good work! You guys are truly inspiring!
